The following entries must be inserted into the autoexec.bat file in the root directory of the C: drive (using the directory examples suggested in paragraphs 1 & 2): A specific line (normally the last line) in the sbpci.ini file must be edited to point to the location and name of the chosen waveset file, as follows (using the suggested directory and naming convention as an example):Ĥ. Renaming a copy of the chosen file to "default.ecw" is recommended.ģ. At least one of these files must be copied to a directory (eg, C:\SBPCI\WAVESETS) on the PC's Hard Drive:

The following waveset files are also included with the Creative Labs driver set for the Vibra 128 / SBPCI 128. They must be copied to a directory (eg, C:\SBPCI) on the PC's Hard Drive.Ģ.
The following DOS installation files are included with the Creative Labs driver set for the Vibra 128 / SBPCI 128. Other Software: 3D Realms - Duke Nukem 3DĭOS Installation Procedure for Vibra 128 & SBPCI 128:ġ. Confirmation of the validity of the DOS installation process for the SBPCI 128 sound card, or of improvements to the DOS installation process for either sound card, would accordingly be welcomed. Further, the author had access to the Vibra 128, but not to the SBPCI 128, so the DOS installation process has only been validated for the Vibra 128 by the author. Accordingly, the steps described may not work with all PCs.

In the absence of any documentation on the subject by Creative Labs, the process has been determined empirically by the author through trial and error.

Purpose: This document describes the steps to get the Creative Labs Vibra 128 sound card (Vibra 128) and the Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI 128 sound card (SBPCI 128) working in the DOS operating system (as opposed to DOS sessions run from, or in the version of DOS accompanying, Windows 95/98). But the card did work for one year only with the configurations below. You also need to check device manager in Windows Control Panel to see if there are any device conflicts causing your system to lock up when accessing the sound card. Also, kaczor, this is what helped me getting my SB PCI 128 work in DOS, before AllSortsofProblems™ happened and I had to work it out on my own.

P300 is the port address for the built in MIDI adapter on the sound card so that is ok too.Īs for the missing DOS driver, if you have an installation disk for the card there should be a dos installation utility on it that will setup the drivers for you in the proper configuration file. There is no statement telling DOS where to find the drivers.īTW, the variable you see, I2 is for IRQ2 which is the same as IRQ9 so there is no problem there unless some other device is also assigned to one of those. The SET BLASTER line only provides environment variables that get passed to the application. The files you posted do not contain any soundcard drivers that I can see. However, if you want to run the application in MSDOS MODE, you must have dos drivers loaded in either Config.sys or Autoexec.bat. When running DOS applications under windows, the Dos drivers aren't usually necessary as Windows provides it's own. O.K., lets see if we can sort some of this out. Unfortunately, it only lets me setup the address, not the IRQ, DMA, etc., so I am screwed!Īnd one more thing, when I run setup.exe for the game, it detects for the presence of a SOUND BLASTER card, but it says one is not detected! But I have one, of course. No error message or anything, there is just no sound and the program freezes up.
The first stream plays, but when it says "Playing stream 2," it just stops. The test portion plays two streams to check the card. The problem is, is that even in Windows for this game, when I setup for SOUNB BLASTER 16, it asks for the address, so I put in 220, like in the Autoexec.bat setting. STRANGE! I just noticed that under the Autoexec.bat, it says "SET BLASTER=A220 I2 D1 H1 P300 T6." Now I know that the "I2" means an IRQ of 2, but I looked up my cards settings in the system information program in windows, and it says the IRQ is 9! Which is correct/wrong, and does it even matter? Also, it says I have a P300, NO, I have a Cyrix 6x86 at 233mhz. SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS.000 C:\WINDOWS.000\COMMAND Here, I will post it(this game is TERMINAL VELOCITY). There are a line or two already in the config.sys for the game. That is, when I right click one of my DOS games, and I go into properties, I see there is a config.sys box that you can type text in.
I noticed that the config.sys you are talking about is in all of my programs.
